Hanumanthu is a young man who lives in Anjanadri, a remote village that is ruled by a cruel chief named Gajapathi. He is in love with Meenakshi, a doctor who wants to improve the lives of the villagers. One day, Hanumanthu finds a mysterious stone called Mani, which gives him superpowers similar to the Hindu god Hanuman. He decides to use his powers to protect his village and his love from Gajapathi and his men.
However, he is not the only one who knows about the Mani. Michael, a city-dweller who is obsessed with superheroes, learns about the stone and wants to possess it for his selfish purposes. He comes to Anjanadri with his assistant Siri Vennela, and tries to steal the Mani from Hanumanthu. A fierce battle ensues between the two, as they unleash their powers and abilities.

“Yes, indeed! India’s first-ever superhero has arrived, gracing the screens of Hanuman Theaters in Telugu. I’ve watched it with subtitles, and let’s dive into how the movie unfolds.
Just like in standalone superhero movies. It’s a pattern – the villain is introduced in the first half, along with the superheroes’ powers. This movie follows suit; the villain surfaces at the beginning, and by the end of the first half, the hero acquires superpowers. However, what I appreciate is how they humorously link Lord Hanuman’s superpowers.
You might recall the Rudhira Mani and Samundar scene from the Hero trailer – it’s portrayed with excellent cinematography, and the graphical explanation enhances our understanding. In the first half, you’ll feel that, compared to other superheroes, the movie tries to break the mold. Forget about Spiderman, Superman, and Batman – we now have our Indian superhero. The powers directly trace back to Hanumanji, teased amusingly in the movie.
The film’s humor puts you at ease, making you forget the glamour-filled superhero tales. It’s a story deeply rooted in Indian culture, cleverly connecting with the audience through Anjana Di’s representation of the region, people, and natural backgrounds. The recurring giant statue of Hanuman Ji and the mantra recitations add a delightful touch.
However, it’s interesting to note that, unlike typical superhero movies, this one includes a love story and forced song sequences. Especially in the second half, during a crucial scene, the girlfriend-saving and song initiation felt unexpected from Prashant Verma. Yet, alongside the climax featuring Hanuman Ji, the unfolding scene, and the subsequent 5 to 6-minute sequence are remarkable.
The CGI, despite a low budget, manages to entertain and instill hope that Indian culture can produce its superhero movie. The film’s simplicity makes it enjoyable for families, but don’t expect post-credits scenes. The next part is expected in 2025, and this movie gets 4 out of 5 stars from me.
