Since the cinema halls opened again after the lockdowns, three films have stormed the Indian box office Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, MCU’s Spiderman: Far from Home, and South Indian cinema Telugu film Pushpa: The Rise. Now, in this video, I want to discuss that even with not many promotions, how Pushpa managed to do well at the box office. Let’s first check the box-office collections of Puspha: The Rise. The film is made on the budget of around 150 Crores, and till now, the Indian net collections of the film are 261 crores, and the worldwide collections of Pushpa: The Rise are 343 crores.
And most exciting part of these collections is that the Hindi version of the film managed to collect around 85 crores. And these numbers simply state that the movie is a blockbuster. So, the first reason I feel for Pushpa: The Rise to fare well at the box office, is that these days Indian films especially Hindi movies are targeted towards the multiplex audience. And Pushpa is a complete mass entertainer with lots of action, catchy one-liners, etc.
And mostly the Indian audience likes to watch these kinds of movies in the cinema halls. With content-driven films doing well at the box office, and not many single-screen targeted movies being produced these days, Pushpa with its release, fills the void of a mass entertainer. The second reason could be the stardom of Allu Arjun. His style is just not famous in Telugu cinema but the complete South Indian cinema as well.
And recently he has developed a certain fan following in northern parts of the country too. The reason could be that the Hindi dubbed versions of many south Indian films are available on the internet. And these pictures are screened on various television channels as well. But you can disagree with this point, that Ranveer Singh is a bigger star than Allu Arjun, yet Ranveer’s 83 flopped at the box office. Though the film has received some criticism regarding the love story of Allu Arjun and Rashika Mandhana, that too in a way created little buzz or gave some publicity to the feature. The fourth reason could be the rise of South Indian films. Telegu cinema’s Baahubali, Tamil cinemas 2.0, and Kannada cinema’s KGF were praised all over India and these films did well commercially too.
And this successful film’s list of South Indian cinema, keeps on growing with Pushpa doing well, and with RRR and KGF Part II releasing anytime soon. In the 90s also, south Indian films were enjoyed and loved by the pan-Indian audience, like Roja, Dalpathi, Humse hai Muqabala, and Bombay, these dubbed Hindi versions did well commercially too. But suddenly, the liking for these films declined, but in the last past 5 years, the love for South Indian cinema has become strong again.
